A 24” and 36” caisson on a North Sea offshore installation had sustained through wall defects. Engineered Technowrap Splashzone™ composite repair to two areas were proposed to reinstate the integrity of the pipework.
The scope of work was to provide an engineered composite repair with a 15 year repair lifetime. Technowrap™ Rope Access trained personnel were mobilised to apply the Technowrap Splashzone™ repair materials.
Defects were found on a weld of a 20” nozzle which required the encapsulation of a flange and patch onto the caisson wall. There was also a 6” branch coming off the 24” caisson.
As the repair area was in the proximity of the splash zone, the wind, sea state and humidity levels all had an impact on application. Technowrap Splashzone™ materials had to be utilized as standard resin systems would not bond to the pipework, nozzle and flange.
Technowrap Splashzone™ was developed to enable Technowrap repairs to be installed on piping systems where the pipework is wet or submerged or for repair applications to caissons and risers in or above the Splash zone.
This application was installed live, therefore there was no loss of production to the client.
This application demonstrates Walker Technical Resources ability to work effectively in conjunction with the operational requirements found within offshore environments and in this instance where the surfaces were not moisture free.
