A 24 Oil import line on-board a North Sea platform had an existing repair in place between the 10mtr and 5mtr level between two stabilizing clamps, also in these areas there was external corrosion found from LAT up to the 2.5mtr level.
The scope of work was to provide an engineered design, with 20 years repair lifetime. This required Technowrap Rope Access Technicians working in the splashzone of the line applying both Technowrap 2K and Technowrap SRS over the defect areas.
During blasting, a layer of passive fire protection (PFP) was found under an existing repair. The old repair was removed and the layer of PFP remained in tact and Technowrap repair will be applied on top. Bad weather and high tides affected the application of the repair. The Technowrap Rope Access Technicians had to work in a low tide window.
8 layers of Technowrap 2K with Splashzone resin were applied over a total length of 7.5meters with 2 layers of Technowrap SRS over the lower 2.5mtr repair to give further structural stability. Walker Technical worked with the asset integrity team who provided surface preparation to ST-3 cleanliness and an average 40µm profile for the required landing areas as per the engineered design calculations.
Following numerous unavoidable delays, the repair was completed guaranteeing the oil import line with an extended life for 20 years. The platform OIE commended the team for their safe and efficient execution.
